What to look for in a Therapist

For every person searching for a therapist, there could be as many differing views as to what constitutes “good therapy.” Every therapist has his or her own unique ways of working and the approaches are many. No one therapist will be suitable for all people. First and foremost, your therapist should be a good listener and able to reflect the essence of what YOU are trying to convey. Therapists are trained listeners and if your therapist is doing more talking than you are, this could be a red flag. When you’re in therapy, you should have the feeling of being understood and if not, the therapist should be making every effort to do so. In my opinion, your therapist should help you formulate goals for your therapy. In doing so, this process will help you visualize what it is you really want.
